But I been waiting for the fat guy

He'll bust up on your roof
tearing up your shingles

Nah, my boy K. Ringle!
"I'm talking bout my boy K. Ringle" + vocal trail by Molly & Emily
I met this cute little elf

In Kevin Milne's Christmas novel, The Paper Bag Christmas, the narrator states
To fully understand the true magic, the real spirit you must first experience a real Christmas. And when that occurs it becomes far more than just another holiday… or a prolonged shopping spree. You see, when you experience a “real” Christmas it becomes a part of you, an ideal, and a desire to put the happiness of others ahead of your own. It’s really not about the sparkly glitz or the insane…Continue

There are so many ways to be creative. And regardless of what we’re creating, I think the feeling we get from creating anything in general is the same, and rivals that of the endorphins kicking in when we exercise. Whether it’s a song, a painting, a garden, a meal, rearranging a room, or a great looking spreadsheet, it’s rewarding and feels great to be creative. And creativity is an element that can be introduced into any task or situation, from problem solving, to brushing…Continue
I love that scene in Tommy Boy where David Spade and Chris Farley are driving down the road crying and singing all the words to the Carpenters’ song at the top of their lungs. If we’re honest, we all have that music we connect with and love to listen to when there’s no one else is around. We keep it to ourselves though because we’re afraid it’s chronically uncool. What’s yours? Wear it like a badge of honor!
When I was younger I “bathed” in everything I listened to. As a result, the music I experienced, pretty much became the soundtrack of my life. I think it’s that kind of listening that lends itself to that phenomenon of being transported back to a particular time and place in your life when you hear something from a certain era. That’s a magical, joyful thing. When I started making music for a living, I found that somewhere along the way, I’d stopped listening to music for enjoyment, and…Continue
So, I’m driving through Alabama to a meeting, looking for any interesting music I might find on the radio, and I settle on an “oldies” station that’s playing a song I remember from when I was a kid. Suddenly I hear this phrase. As the artist is pining away for the love of his life who’s getting ready to walk out the door, he sings, with all of his heart, “o-o-h Mama”. “Ooh Mama”? Really? Can’t you just see the producer in the control room with the poofy hair and huge shirt collar saying…Continue

OK, I’ve got to rant here for a minute. Why can’t there be more authenticity in pop culture? Especially when the things that “pop” and have more longevity, are the things that are the most original! Why are we so scared? Why don’t we want to “think” a little bit? The obvious cases in point: Some recording artist has a hit song, and every other artist, label, and advertiser follows suit in seeing how close they can get to that artist’s sound without being sued. And then they all proceed to…Continue

Songs have such a powerful way of transporting us to another place and time in our lives. How many times have you heard people say “I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when this song was a hit”? And none are more powerful than Christmas songs. For me, there’s Happy Xmas (War is Over), by John Lennon. Although it was actually released in 1971 as a protest song against the Vietnam War, it wasn’t on my radar until the mid-to-late 70′s. And for me it’s about being a kid…Continue

Before I ended up with a marketing degree from Belmont, and doing the music thing, I was in architecture at Auburn University for almost three years. I love architecture, I really do. And my father was an architect, as well as my godfather. But—it wasn’t my first love. And fortunately of me, one of my professors recognized that. He knew that I would go back to my apartment at night, and write and record until the “wee” hours on my little 4-track, and that I was going back and forth from…Continue
